For those of you who don't know, I am currently finishing up my B.F.A. in Photography with a minor in Graphic Design. I will be graduating in May. The last three and a half years have been a long hard journey. With that being said, there is good to every bad situation. No one ever said college was going to be easy… but for some reason I thought it would be, and boy was I wrong! However, I have learned a lot and grown a lot as a women in todays society. One thing I have learned while being at Kendall, is that you have to stand up for what you believe in and educate people, even though you are a student. We can learn from anyone around us. Even though I may be one of the only female outdoors woman at my school, I still found a few great friendships I have learned to value. This year, I will have to create a project that will take the next 9 months to to make. I will show what being a female hunter and outdoors woman really is. I want to educate people who don't know the correct facts about what really goes on. Mainly to help get this negative thinking about the "outdoor sporting industry" in check. I feel as an artist, it is my job to make something that will hopefully change a couple minds.
Instead of getting mad when people who are not educated in the outdoor industry tell me I'm killing Bambi (which is not even close to true), I will show them the true side of hunting. And just for the record….A. bambi was a fake character in a couple different forms of media, B. this is a fawn which I have never or will never harvest intentionally and C. I am sick and tired of being accused for "killing" a disney character.
My hope for this next year is to show how we as hunters and lovers of the outdoors add and contribute to the world around us rather than take away. We donate to families in need. We keep the population in check, we help each other out, not only in our communities but around our world. With this being said. I would like the moral support of others who feel the same way I do to help me get through this last year and most importantly to educate the world around me one person at a time. Your thoughts and prayers would be appreciated as I continue through my last year.
You da best,
